Making a strong start begins now

As you get into the swing of things at university, you will go through  a time of significant adjustment... and we know you want to be well adjusted!  To that end, we encourage you to look ahead and make the most of the resources available to you on campus:

1. The Mature Student Success Series, hosted by Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-time Students (ACMAPS), is comprised of workshops and presentations on a variety of academic and personal topics, including time management and building academic and writing skills. Full details will be listed on our web site by mid-September at: http://www.yorku.ca/acmaps/events/workshops.html

2. Mature Student Peer Mentoring is also available at ACMAPS. Our team of upper-year Mature students is available at various times throughout the week to meet with you, talk over concerns, answer questions, and provide referrals to campus resources. For more information, see the Mentor Program section of our web site at: http://www.yorku.ca/acmaps/mentors.html

3. Fall Co-curricular Week, October 9-15, provides an excellent opportunity to connect to the full array of supports and services on campus and to build your personal network of acquaintances too. Whether you're looking for session on Career Development, looking to take in a session on library research skills, or seeking a social outlet on campus, this week is for you.  Sessions hosted by our key partners on campus, including the Learning Commons, the Learning Skills Services area and the Writing Department. Check the web site  in late summer for details: www.yorku.ca/fcw

4. There are quite literally hundreds of events hosted by York's Colleges, Faculties, Art Galleries, Student Support Offices and Student Organizations that take place every year. For a complete list of current events, see the YU Events web page at: http://www.yorku.ca/yuevents/index.asp

Best wishes for a strong start to your academic year!

  1. Good point about the fall reading week. I find this a great time to stop and reflect on how things are going so far. It's a great time to seek some help or to just get caught up on reading.
